چکیده

This paper is concerned with the acoustical analysis on sub-harmonic of glottal source in Mandarin tones. The methods used in this research are: 1) extracting glottal source of tones by inverse filtering; 2) analyzing subharmonic and spectrum tilt by FTT; 3) simulating the double peak pulse by 4 functions and describing the natures of them in both time and frequency domains. There are 3 conclusions: 1) the double peak pulse produce sub-harmonic in glottal source of Mandarin tones; 2) subharmonic influences the spectrum tilt; 3) the double peak pulse can be simulated and modeled mathematically.

Phonation Models of Tone and Diatone in Mandarin

This paper is concerned with the study on the phonation models of tone and diatone in Mandarin. The method used in this study has 3 parts: 1) extracting glottal signal by inverse filtering; 2) extracting phonation parameters from glottal signal in time domain; 3) modeling the phonation natures of tones and diatones by polynomial curve fitting. There are 3 conclusions, which are 1) there are 3 t...

Effects of language experience and expectations on attention to consonants and tones in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Both long-term native language experience and immediate linguistic expectations can affect listeners' use of acoustic information when making a phonetic decision. In this study, a Garner selective attention task was used to investigate differences in attention to consonants and tones by American English-speaking listeners (N = 20) and Mandarin Chinese-speaking listeners hearing speech in either...

Perception of intonation in Mandarin Chinese.

There is a tendency across languages to use a rising pitch contour to convey question intonation and a falling pitch contour to convey a statement. In a lexical tone language such as Mandarin Chinese, rising and falling pitch contours are also used to differentiate lexical meaning. How, then, does the multiplexing of the F(0) channel affect the perception of question and statement intonation in...

Immediate effects of vocal warm-up exercises on elementary teachers' voice

Introduction: Teachers are a large group of professional voice users who are exposed to many voice problems. Vocal warm-up exercises (VWUE) can prepare the muscles involved in vocalization before teaching and can reduce voice damage in teachers. However, limited studies have examined the effects of VWUE on teachers' voices. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the immediate...

Perceptual sensitivity to first harmonic amplitude in the voice source.

Little is known about the perceptual importance of changes in the shape of the source spectrum, although many measures have been proposed and correlations with different vocal qualities (breathiness, roughness, nasality, strain...) have frequently been reported. This study investigated just-noticeable differences in the relative amplitudes of the first two harmonics (H1-H2) for speakers of Mand...
